We've taken our Brutus Baby to the beach before, but one day he showed us on Google Maps that he hoped to go to a beach named "The Wedge" in Newport Beach, CA.

The Wedge is known for its big waves. We thought maybe he wanted to body surf. We don't know how he knew about The Wedge.

So found a day when we were free, packed our beach gear, and took him.

After arriving, we expected him to run right into the surf. We were worried about him, but we weren't going to stop him.

But soon it was obvious he wanted to be there because of the sand and the seashells. The sand at The Wedge has more color and texture than many other parts of Newport Beach. It's also full of colored seashells.

Brutus Baby had a lot of fun playing in the sand.

Even the wet sand, with the bubbly salt water.

When he wanted a break, he'd sit up against this sea log that had washed up on shore.

We know he's not afraid of water, and he can swim, but he never went into the surf.

For awhile, he wanted to play beach volleyball with a kelp bulb. He's so fast and strong, he could easily hit it as well as any of us.

He liked the kelp and would stick his head in it. Maybe he ate some. We could not tell.

But the thing that surprised us the most was how much fun he had with the seashells.

He would do all kinds of things with the shells, mostly to amuse us.

He especially liked the shells that had one or more holes in them. Here he is with his seashell mask.

There are a few sea rocks mixed in the with shells that are just as pretty. Brutus Baby liked them too.

After a wonderful day, it was time to go home. Brutus Baby was having so much fun, we wondered if he would come with us. We don't own or control him. If he had wanted to stay, we would have let him, hoping he'd find his way back to our house. After all, since he's been living with us, he often leaves for days at a time, and we don't know where he goes or what he does. But ... to our delight ... he willingly came home with us. We're so lucky he's chosen to live with us -- at least for now. We don't know how long he'll stay. What a great day at The Wedge!
